My thoughts and experiences on the exposed outer coast. Lots of photos and a few words about intertidal nature. I’m always thinking about sandy beach connections to its sister ecosystems, the rocky intertidal, estuaries, and coastal forests. You can see photos of things I’ve found washed ashore on my Wrack Line pages. If you are looking for new takes on common intertidal algae, plants, and animals, I’m always updating my Variety of Life pages. I love the full-page layout on all theoutershores’ pages.
Gorgeously mysterious!
Thanks for reminding me, Dora. There is mystery. I guess that’s what draws me.
From the tiniest minutae to the grand view Steve, your images are always wonderful. Your part of the coastline is so different from mine and yet the ocean delivers its wonders to us every minute of every day. Your captures of its creatures and plant life are always fascinating. May you find and share many more treasures in the coming year.
Thank you so much for your 2021 wishes. And here’s to the differences and similarities of our shores! Great challenge, Tina. It was hard to get it down to favorites. I wish all the best for you in 2021.
I once read it’s an important discipline to winnow down your number of favorites each year. Rather like deciding which is your favorite child! You did very well my friend!
Your photos are always stunning. You never fail to draw out the textures of the seaside and all the inhabitants.
Transfixing images, as ever.
Wonderful photos. Some mysterious creatures there. Makes me want to go walk in the nearest beach.
Thank you! I haven’t ben to the beach much this year because of Covid. I want to be safe, but I’m also impatient to get to the beach.
Beautiful collection with subtle shades and soothing atmosphere. Lovely!
Hi! So sorry I’m just getting back to you. I’m always letting things slip through the cracks. Thank you. I was the perfect challenge for me. Perked me up to put a few images together. I’m happy you liked them.- Steve
Hey Steve. Not to worry 😉 Have a great day.
Now – each one is a work of art, Steve. The colours, the forms and patterns, the textures…Close or faraway – always, always fantastic! Best wishes for the new year!
Thank you, Ann-Christine. I wish you a wonderful year ahead!- Steve

Wow. Excellent photos. Well done.
Thank you, John! I didn’t get out much this year, and I wasn’t going to do it, and then at the last minute, I thought it would be good for me, so I did it. Thanks for the feedback.- Steve
Wonderful photos in a wondrous & wild part of northern California. Love it!
Thank you, Gerowyn. I wish you a wonderful year ahead.- Steve
