Hi Steve,
I took a snap of a critter washed up on the Long Beach shoreline. I’m posting it in my Wordless Wednesday. If you know what it is, please let me know! Wishing you safe harbor as we navigate uncharted waters.
Hi! I will check it out for sure. Can’t wait. In the meantime, thanks for the good wishes. I hope you are safe and well too.
Hello Steve Human! Biasini the horse here. I have never seen anything like this before. Can these things be eaten? They look a little bit like my alfalfa hay cubes once they have been soaked in water. Whatever they are thanks for responding to my photo challenge🐴.
Hi, Biasini! Those are sea anemones, an animal, not much even by horses. Some humans around the world have a taste for them. I really enjoyed your photo challenge. It was right up my alley.
YIKES Steve – quite a colony! Who knows if there is communication but if i had to guess, I’d say yes!
Yes, Tina! Good call. The colonies are genetically unique clones. adjacent clones fight along their borders. A bit of open space reduces fighting I guess.
Excellent.
Could it be a split between Republican and Democratic anemones? 😊
Communication – yes
You are an insightful person. Those colonies are genetically distinct clones. They very much know who their neighbors are. Thanks for playing along.
♥
Now, you have me wondering if they do communicate! I have no doubt they do. Nature is far more in harmony than we are!
