Reflections From the Shore

The seascapes below highlight reflections from beach and tidepool surfaces; transient low tide mirrors. Headlands, outcrops, maritime forests, sea stacks, and even the setting sun serve as subjects. Moody scenery, connections, and a sense of wild are the themes they convey.

Faint headlands, forested slopes, and dark outcrops mirrored in an expansive residual sheen.

Ripples on the left affirm an open connection to the sea.

Desmarestia and Sitka spruce meet in a low sand-filled pool.

Intertidal reefs have an otherworldly quality.

Shaping up for the green flash, something you feel as much as see. We wait.

  1. Gorgeous images Steve, somehow I knew you’d be featuring liquid scenes this week. Your final image is superb. Have you actually seen the green flash? I saw it once in Florida but very fleetingly. We don’t experience it here on Kiawah

    1. Thanks, Tina. Conditions seemed right and I think I saw it shortly after I took the image in the post. There was a good-sized green mirage, but after staring at the sun so long, ha!, I don’t really know. That’s why I say you feel it as much as see it. For what it’s worth, I saw on Facebook some posts by others who saw it, and even a photo.

  2. These are so beautiful, Steve! I think the second one is my favorite – it is the sand and the sea, the reflected pieces of land and the distant waves. A wholeness.

  3. Stunningly beautiful and fantastic selections, Steve. I could almost touch the mist and the fog in the first two. It must be low tide in the third one, I saw tiny ripples as if it was sprinkling. The sunset photo is one of my favorites. I could see two seabirds on the sand.

    1. I’m so happy to hear that you like my choices. It was a fun challenge, thanks! And thanks for sharing your thoughts on the images, it means a lot to me. I felt a kinship with the two gulls you mention. They were waiting patiently, along with me as the sun was setting.

  4. I’m in awe with your reflection photos! All were so beautifully captured, Thank you, Steve for joining in this theme!
