I’ve been trying to I.D. this worm for years. Any luck on it? We have them down here in SF. On fine grained sandy beaches. Not sure if its a clam worm, an invasive pile worm, or something else. Cheers.
Hi Kirk, Yes I have gotten some feedback from some worm experts. Nobody was certain, but two said their impression was Nephtys. Some people call them gaddess-worms. I think it’s a good start. Thanks for your inquiry; it’s timely- I’m thinking about posting a photo of another fairly large sand-dwelling worm soon. It’s also a troublesome ID, but I finally got a fairly decent photo. If you want a preview, you can check it out on theoutershores’ fb page: https://www.facebook.com/theoutershores
Let me know if you have run across this one. – Steve
